In this post, I’ll be going over everything Helium 10 related, so that you end up with an understanding of what it is and whether or not you should pick it up.

In this section, I’ll go over what each of the different Helium 10 tools are, and what they can do.

Product Research Tools

This set of tools, like the name suggests, will help with everything and anything related to product research. This includes possible products that you can sell, trending products, product pricing, estimated revenue for different products, customer reviews, ASIN scraping and much more.

Inside the Helium 10 product research category, there are currently 4 different tools. These tools are: Black Box, Trendster, Xray, and the Profitability calculator.  

Helium 10 Black Box

The Black Box tool, allows you to find winning product ideas and concepts, from a pool of over 450 million different products. 

You can search for winning products using their smart filters, thus weeding out the products you’re not interested in, which allows you to find those “golden nugget” products that everyone and their mothers are after.

The Helium 10 Black Box, allows you to sort products by estimated sales and monthly revenue, price, the number of reviews, number of images number of sellers that are selling the product and even by weight!

This allows you to drastically decrease the amount of time it would take you to find a winning product, and facilitates to an extreme the whole product finding process, which will (and probably has) taken months out of your life, in the past already.

The trends tool, can quickly and easily help you find and spot, different seasonal trends for products that you’re interested in sourcing.

This will let you determine which product is worth selling, is starting to take off, has started dying down or is likely to start selling again based on the past data points.

The Helium 10 Xray tool, is probably one of the top tools of the platform, and the one which Helium 10 is best known for. 

What this tool allows you to do, is gather a ton of information for the products on page 1 of Amazon.

The tool spits out data on the pricing of the products, average price, the estimated sales and revenue, the rating, the amount of reviews, the brand name, the ASIN number, product weight, number of images in their listing, average best seller rank (BSR)…and a lot more.

The Helium 10 Xray, comes integrated into the Helium 10 Chrome extension, and you can use it whenever you’re browsing through products that you’re interested in learning more about, inside the Amazon platform.

Helium 10 Profitability Calculator

The profitability calculator, is also part of the Helium 10 Chrome extension, and it allows you to see a lot of information regarding product sales and as the name suggests…the potential profits and ROI.

It does this by generating data for that product and estimating the profit based on the price for shipping, the Amazon fees, the dimensions of the product, the unit manufacturing costs, the referral fees, estimated time in storage, the shipping rate…and a lot more.

This tool is absurdly powerful, and it basically can save you a ton of money and time, so that instead of trying out a product to see if it sells…you can directly discard the product as a viable option if the numbers are off, and focus on other products that might actually be profitable.

Keyword Research Tools

Keyword research is the bread and butter of competing as a seller in Amazon, and pretty much on any of these “rank-based” marketplaces and platforms, and it’s absolutely crucial to do both effectively and correctly.

These sets of tools, allow you to both find profitable and opportunistic keywords that give you a competitive advantage in the marketplace, as well as show you keywords that are maybe more saturated or whose respective products are on a downtrend, so that you can stay away from them.

The Helium 10 Keyword research tools include 3 distinct tools. These are the Helium 10 Cerebro, the Magnet and the Misspellinator.  

Helium 10 Cerebro

The Helium 10 Cerebro is the platform’s premier keyword research tool. 

It’s basically a reverse ASIN tool, that allows you to enter one or multiple ASIN numbers into it, and it gives you back a bunch of keyword information regarding those specific ASIN. So basically, you put a product in, and you get keyword information out.

This information, for all the multiple hundreds and thousands of keywords, include everything from the search volume, to organic ranking for those keywords, sponsored rankings for them, word frequencies, number of competing products, and even gives you an idea of the frequently bought together items.

• Free Plan: You get 2 ASIN searches per day. (You can’t filter results with the free plan).

Helium 10 Magnet

What the Helium 10 Magnet does is, it shows you for any given search, a ton of keywords and word phrases that people are typing into Amazon, to end up finding that specific phrase.

So in a sense, the Magnet tool, helps you find those subsets of keywords, that are relevant or can be related to a specific product that you’re searching for.

Similar to the Cerebro tool, you’ll be able to see word frequency (how frequent a specific word appears with your search), top products, keyword distribution between organic and paid, the search volumes, the IQ score, sponsored ASIN and competing products. You can of course, filter this information and

Helium 10 Misspellinator

Misspelinator allows you to find different keywords that get results on Amazon, but that are misspelled.

For example, the word “Airplane” get’s misspelled as “Airplain” and does NOT get autocorrected in Amazon.

This means that you can potentially come in, and, depending on the different results that you see on the Amazon page for that specific misspelling (you should make sure the results are congruent)…create a listing and index for that specific misspelling.

Essentially, this tool allows you to get an advantage off of people misspelling words, to get traffic to your own products. Pretty powerful.

Listing Optimization

The listing optimization tools allow you to optimize your product listings, to fit the Amazon.com search algorithm. Optimizing your product for the Amazon search algorithm is crucial to having your product appear on the organic searches for the different keywords and keyword phrases you’re targeting.

Optimizing the listing includes, adding correct number of images, the correct keyword density, description length, correct title, title length, relevant related keywords…and so on and so forth.

When it comes to listing optimization tools, Helium 10 has 3 distinct tools. These are: Frankenstein, Scribbles and Index Checker.

Helium 10 Frankenstein

The Helium 10 Frankenstein tool allows you to take a bunch of different keywords and phrases you might have found on other sites, other platforms, other research tools, and the different tools like Cerebro or Magnet…and basically consolidate them.

The tool let’s you see the frequency of certain words of the original list, remove common words or filler words, remove single letters and duplicates, remove numbers, add commas to the list, replace words…and a bunch things.

Also, it allows you to sort by length of phrase so as to see the most long tail phrases within that list, and also allows you to sort alphabetically if you so choose to.

Essentially, the tool helps you find trends and word frequency within a list, and also gives you an idea of some great long-tail phrases you can use.

Helium 10 Scribbles

The Helium 10 Scribbles tool is the main listing optimizer tool on the platform, and is the one the platform is best known for.

What the Scribbles tool allows you to do, is add a list of keywords and keyphrases onto the tool, and it’ll automatically show you how often each word appears on all of the keyphrases and also which keyphrases are in turn, searched for the most, for you to optimize your product towards.

Basically, scribbles shows you which keyphrases and keywords that you entered, are the most searched for, so that you can add your product description, bullet points and subject matter, to include all, or as many of these phrases and keywords as possible.

As you add descriptions, Scribbles will highlight and cross-out, the different words and phrases, so that you know that you’re adding the correct ones.

Usage:

Helium 10 Index Checker

The Helium 10 Index checker was one of the original tools of the platform started.

The idea behind this tool, is that it allows you to check whether or not your product is indexed on the Amazon marketplace, for the different keywords that you’re targeting.

For this, you’ll need to add your product ASIN number to the dashboard, and add the keywords that you’d think your product shows up for (if you’ve done your listing optimization with something like the Helium 10 scribbles tool…you’ll have an idea of what to expect).

If your product is indexed for that keyword, you’ll see a checkmark. If the search wasn’t run, you’ll see an “x”. If the product isn’t indexed for that keyword, you’ll see a dash “-“.

This allows you to see which keywords you should add to your listing, to start appearing in the searches.

Operations

Helium 10 Refund Genie

The idea behind this tool, is that it allows you to get a report for the “loss and damage” items from Amazon, that you might want to get some money back from.

Essentially you’ll want to run the refund genie on your seller accounts, you’ll be getting an excel sheet summary of each lost item and it’s value, and you’ll be then able to upload this file or set of files, to the fulfilled by Amazon inventory lost and damaged, help section.

With the help of the Amazon support, you’ll hopefully be able to be reimbursed that amount of money, both for the inventory lost and damaged products.

Usage:

• Free Plan: Limited usage.
• Paid Plan: Unlimited uses.

Helium 10 Alta

The Helium 10 Alta tool, allows you modernize your cash flow management with simple financial services to help you grow.

You can use get access to a marketplace-based credit line to grow your business, accept payments from multiple countries without having to have business entities there, send payments to over 200 countries, handle taxes, and even do things like getting paid daily on your Amazon sales, instead of bi-weekly.

It’s actually sort of like an appendix platform, within the Helium 10 platform, and is obtainable to both free Helium 10 users, and paid customers alike. To get access to it, you’ll want to create an account with Helium 10, and simply create a free Alta account from within the dashboard.

Helium 10 Alerts

The Helium 10 Alerts tool, allows you to get alerted when something happens to your different listings.

You’ll be able to see changes in feedback (if you get negative feedback), changes in the title (in case Amazon or someone else changes the title, which can affect your listings), changes in pricing, in Amazon fee, and even in size.

Believe it or not, thousands of listings change their size, daily. If someone mismeasures your product, and changes the size, the fees go up and the profits for you, go down. You want to keep an eye out for these things, and the Helium 10 alert tool, allows you to do that.

In any case, if any of the variables mentioned above, change, you can choose to get a notification, either via email or a phone SMS if you’re using the Helium 10 mobile app, for any one of the variables you want to monitor.

Usage:

• Free Plan: Up to 2 ASIN.
• Paid Plan: Up to 300 ASINs for the Platinum plan. 600 for Diamond and up to 1000 ASINs for the Elite plan.

Helium 10 Inventory Protector

This tool is a great tool, for all those sellers that are doing discounts.

If you’re going to be giving out a massive discount on your products, or a group discount for say, 30% off, you don’t want 1 single person to go out and buy up all of the inventory at that price.

What the inventory protector allows you to then, is set the maximum order quantity, from within the tool dashboard, so that you don’t have to go to your account, and individually open up each listing and change each of the numbers for each product.

Instead, you sync up your Amazon seller account to the tool through an API integration and modify all the information from within the dashboard. The limit will then reflect back on your Amazon seller account, and on the Amazon marketplace.

Helium 10 Follow-Up

The Helium 10 Follow-Up tool, allows you to send messages from the Amazon seller central.

This tool, works like any other email autoresponder, in that it will allow you to send confirmation notifications about orders, shipping, delivery failures, send out general broadcasts, announce giveaways or discounts, show you information such as the open rates, opt-out rates, build and manage workflows and apply filters to the different contacts, amongst other things.

You’ll be able to use premade templates, to save time, or use the email editor, for something a bit more customizable. That part is totally up to you.

Usage:

• Free Plan: Unlimited usage (free tool, as of the writing of this article).
• Paid Plan: Up to 5,000 emails/month for the Helium 10 Platinum plan, up to 15,000 emails/month for the Diamond plan and 50,000 emails/month for the Elite plan.

Helium 10 Pricing

When it comes to the Helium 10 pricing structure, you can find what are technically 5 distinctly different pricing plans for it. These are the Helium 10 Free plan, the “A la carte” plan, the Platinum plan, the Diamond plan, and finally, the Elite plan.

In the following section, I’ll be going over all of the different plans and what they offer.

Helium 10 Free Plan – $0/month

The Helium 10 free plan, is 100% free. 

The great thing about this plan, is that it allows you to use all of the tools inside of the platform, which is something that a lot of the companies in this space will not necessarily allow you to do (some of the competitors will give you a 14 day free trial, but ask you for payment details, Helium 10, does not).

That being said, the free plan, which you can get here, will give you only limited usage of the tools. In some cases, you’ll have a few goes at the tool, and in other cases you can use them for a limited time after creating your account. 

Here, are the different tools and limitations for the free plan:

So as you can see, while you’ll be getting access to all of the different tools, they will come with their restrictions. Some tools you’ll be able to use for some time, others, just a few times.

Some of the other services, like the FaceBook group, the free training and coaching, aren’t available in the free plan, so keep that in mind.

The a la carte plan, allows you to cherry-pick from within a subsection of the Helium 10 tools, which tool you want to use.

This option will save you money in case you don’t need all of the other tools, however it does make the tools on average a bit more expensive than what you would get them for on the other paid plans, because of the flexibility.

Keep in mind that with the a la carte option, some of the tools like the Helium 10 Frankenstein or the Helium 10 Scribbles, are not available.

Keep in mind that some of the tools inside the Helium 10 Platinum plan, are “limited” in the sense that the Diamon and Elite plans, which are more expensive, allow for even more usage on the tools. The main difference between the Helium 10 Diamond plan, and the Platinum plan, is that the Diamon plan, allows for some extension of the usage and limit, of some of the tools like the Follow-up email automation, the alerts, the keyword tracker and the index checker.

The Helium 10 webinars, are a series of longer videos that you can watch, where you’ll be taught different things like keyword research, top secrets on how to correctly optimize your listing, how to do inventory management, how to expand out of the Amazon platform…and other more general themes.

These are all free and you can watch them straight from the Helium 10 website.

As of the writing of this article, there are currently around a dozen different hour+ long videos in the Helium 10 webinar library.

Guides and E-Books

This section, includes a ton of different written and video guides, to some of the more difficult questions and issues you might encounter as an Amazon seller.

There are guides to a lot of different issues, like how to do business maintenance, how to correctly do product launches, how to find optimal keywords and do correct keyword research, how to correctly optimize and set up your product listing and how to handle shipping and logistics.

There is even a complete video series for beginner sellers called the “Amazon 101” series, which is highly recommended.

Helium 10 Academy

The Helium 10 Academy, is a free online training course, on how to go about using every single one of the Helium 10 tools, and how to familiarize yourself with the platform.

This free training includes, exercises, activities and quizzes to go through on each of the lessons, to make it an interactive experience. At the end of the course, you can also get a Helium 10 user certification.

Amazon Keyword Research

The Helium 10 Amazon keyword research tool, is a free keyword research tool that is integrated into the website, that you can use to give you access to some of the data on organic keywords, search volume, competing products, some top products and a few word frequencies…for a specific ASIN or keyword that you enter, or whichever Amazon marketplace you choose.

It’s basically a very simplified and honed down version of the Helium 10 keyword research tools like Cerebro and Magnet, and it only allows you to see very limited data.

PPC Audit

The PPC audit tool, is another awesome free resource that the Helium 10 site provides you with, and it basically allows you to upload advertising report data from your Amazon seller central on whatever paid campaigns you’re running, to give you an idea of which ads aren’t working well and which ones are, so that you can go ahead and optimize.

To use the tool, you’ll need to upload the report and add a target ACoS (advertising cost of sale) for your campaigns, depending on where you’re at with your Amazon business (a beginner seller will have a higher expected ACoS).

After running the report, you’ll be able to see information such as your ACoS scores, an in-depth campaign analysis (campaigns that are above and below your ACoS), a search term and keyword analysis and a duplication analysis (again, compared to the original ACoS goal you set).

With these results, you’ll get an idea of which keywords and ads are getting clicks, but are not getting a good return (or simply not getting sales at all), as well as see if you’re bidding against yourself through duplicate keywords, so that you can address all these issues accordingly.

Helium 10 Chrome Extension

The Helium 10 Chrome extension, is the most popular Amazon sales-related chrome extension on the market today, with over 300,000 downloads.

This free tool, will give you access to some of the Helium 10 tools, which you can start using as soon as you download the extension, which takes literally seconds to do.

The chrome extension gives you:

• Xray – Xray gives you tons of data on a specific Amazon ASIN. You’ll be able to see, within seconds, data like product revenue estimates and sales trends.
  
  
• ASIN Grabber – Allows you to conduct a competitive analysis of related ASINs.
  
  
• Profitability Calculator – Gives you an estimate of your bottom line, using a similar product to factor in your own product’s specifications.
  
  
• Inventory Level – This tool allows you the ability to see the number of units other sellers have without having to check each seller individually.
  
  
• Review Insights – Gives you access to all of the reviews on the competitor products. You can filter through and export these results, to better understand your customer, which can give you a strategical advantage.
  
  
• Listing Health Score – This gives you a checklist for a product’s optimization. You can see the differences between a correct listing and your own, and thus, be able to adjust.

URL Builder

The URL builder is a really cool free tool, that allows you to create different URLs for your products, and facilitate the buyer experience.

So for example you can create a canonical URL for your product to make your listings be search engine friendly (to better Google rankings), you can create direct add to cart links that will add your product to the cart directly, buy together links, multiple ASIN links (for bundles), Walmart links and even brand and keyword URL for PPC.

Other Features: Helium 10 Portal

The Helium 10 portals, is a the platforms landing page builder.

With it, you can create landing pages for your product listings, effortlessly, and then sen traffic from whichever traffic source you want.

You can get a breakdown of the traffic, number of clicks, the conversions, sales, devices and so on, which will allow you to keep optimizing your listing and focusing on the most highest converting traffic.

You can also build your list as you go.

The Helium 10 portals sections, is as of the writing of this article, in close Beta, and is only open and available for the Helium 10 Diamond and Elite members.

Helium 10 Free Trial

Is there a way for you to try out the Helium 10 platform, for free, and without having to add any type of payment information? In other words: Is there a Helium 10 free trial?

The answer to this question is, yes!

The Helium 10 free trial, which you can get here, will give you access to absolutely every single one of the main Helium 10 tools, so that you can try them out, before committing any more with the platform.

Helium 10 Alternatives

With all that said, you might still be on the fence of whether or not Helium 10 is a good tool for what you need to do.

You might now be looking for what other alternatives are out there, maybe there is something a bit cheaper, a little bit more flexible, more established or that just…does something that Helium 10 doesn’t do.

In this section, I’ll be going over the different Helium 10 alternatives that are out there.

Jungle Scout

Jungle scout is a cheaper, less robust version of the Helium 10 platform, that still maintains most of the features that you’d need, to be able to sell products on Amazon.

Just like Helium 10, Jungle Scout also has a downloadale chrome extension, and tools like a product tracker, a product database tool, a rank tracker, a keyword research tool called “keyword scout”, a listing builder…and so on and so forth.

When it comes to pricing, the Jungle Scout software, is a lot more affordable starting at as low as $39/month for their basic plan, and up to $129/month on their professional plan.

Unfortunately, you do get strangled when it comes to the tools you’ll be able to use on each plan, and there is no free account that you can use (you only get a free 14 day free trial, by creating an account and adding a payment method).

Jungle Scout is thus, a more affordable, and more toned down version of Helium 10, that beginner users might find a bit more fitting, before they get into a platform as complete as the Helium 10 one. You can get a free Jungle Scout account, here.

ZonBase

I’m a huge fan of this tool personally, and it does most of the things that you can do with Helium 10, only it’s a lot less well known as a platform.

Similar to Helium 10, it also has keyword research tools, it has listing optimization tools and reverse ASIN product research tools and even a Chrome extension that you can download from their site.

When it comes to pricing, ZonBase is a lot less expensive than Helium 10, but it is a bit more limited to what it can do. It doesn’t have all of the features that Helium 10 does (it’s missing things like the Refund genie, the email marketing followups, amongst others), and it has nowhere near the amount of customers and reputation that Helium 10 does.

With that said, ZonBase does have some interesting features that make it stand out, for example, the fact that you can buy PPC done for you campaigns, which will have the ZonBase team deal with your budget and advertising based on their own experience; the fact that you can purchase on-demand one-on-one coaching with established Amazon coaches within their platform; or the fact that you can buy some services like the photo enhancer, which will have the team create stunning product photographs for you…amongst other things.

As you can see, Helium 10 really is one of the best all-in-one solutions when it comes to selling products on Amazon, that there is out there in the market today, hands down.

Not only is it the most robust and complete option out there, but it’s also one that is systematically getting better and better by the day. With new tools and features, integrations and portals coming out, Helium 10 is probably the place where you want to be, and is what I would consider to be the best option right now for all your Amazon seller needs.
